**Carl Hamilton, WW ll was a member of the Army Air Corps. He was a part of the 555 Bomb Squadron serving as a radio operator on board B26 Marauder bombing flights over Europe. Carl served from 1942-1945. Carl was a part of the following military campaigns. Normandy , Northern France, Rhineland, Air Offensive Europe,
Carl received these decorations: EAME TheaterRibnon with 4 Bronze Stars per WDGO

**As WWll finally drew to a close, a fourth brother, Clifford O. Hamilton , entered the service. In February 1949, Clifford was assigned to the 516th Airborne Infantry Regiment of the 101st. Airborne Division where he began training as a paratrooper.

**Daniel F. Hamilton, WWll was a member of the Army during WW ll. He was inducted along with his brother Carl at Fort Thomas. Dan spent most of his service in Alaska where he served as a radio operator during the course of the war. While most radio operators were trained by the military, Dan had worked as a radio service repairman prior to the war. This experience allowed him to move right into active service as a radio operator.

**John R. Hamilton, Jr. Known at home as Bob WW ll
John R., Jr.served in the Army. He was part of the 310th Field Artillery Battalion. Bob served 1943-1946. He was a machine gunner and rifle marksman during the war. Bob was part of the D-Day invasion at Normandy and later fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Major campaigns and battles listed on his discharge papers include: Normandy, Northern Solomans, Rhineland, and Central Europe.
Bob received the EAME Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Ribbon, World War ll Victory Medal and the Croix De Guerrero Distinguished Unit Badge from the French government.




** Harriet Hamilton McDaniel, (1922 - 2014) is buried in the Richmond Cemetery in Madison County, KY.
She was the sister of Carl, Clifford, Dan and John and she enlisted in the Navy and held the rank of Hospital Apprentice First Class (HAI). She was a nurse in her civilian life and worked at Pattie A. Clay Hospital in Richmond.

**Dr. Steven M. Meader, US Navy WW ll. Entered the Navy at the age of 17 in 1943. He served as a sonar operator on a submarine and represented his sub and ship as a boxer against other armed forces.






**Robert C. Muncy, TSGT. US Army Air Forces, WW ll, Air Medal and 3 OLC ( Served in England and France when he enlisted in the US Army. He served as a radio operator and ball turret gunner on a B 26 bomber in the US Army Air Corp from 1940 until 1945. He was a decorated serviceman at the time of his discharge.
**John H. Revis, SSGT US Army Air Force, 380 BM SQ H, 310 BM GP H, WW ll , KIA on September 29, 1943. Crew member of a B-25 shot down on a bombing run in Italy.



** Remine Sizemore, PFC, US Army, WW ll. During Operation Varsity on October 12, 1938 Remine parachuted from a C47 troop transport plane with a drop order near Wessel, Germany. While attempting to reach the assembly point an enemy machine gun opened fire and Remine was KIA. Remine was killed the day prior to the end of the war in Europe. His body was recovered and buried in the American Military Cemetery in Margraten, Holland. His remains were brought back home for burial here in Hurricane Cemetery with full military honors in September 1949 as pictured above. This is the veteran that started the laying of Wreaths Across America in Leslie County. He was a Medic and was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Service Star, WW ll Victory Medal, WW ll Honorable Service Lapel Button, Parachute Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Presidential Distinguished Unit Emblem.

















** William Fredrick Brashear's son Freddy said when his dad went into the service he bought his wife Mary the love seat pictured above and it is in Freddy's office today. When his father came out of the service, he bought her a rocking chair that is also pictured above and it also is in Freddy's office.

**Curtiss Estridge, KIA, Vietnam, Purple Heart, SP4 Infantryman, D CO., 2nd BN , 1st. Infantry ,196th. Infantry BDE , American Div. Killed while a passenger on a military aircraft on a military mission. Aircraft was fired upon by hostile ground force, crashed and burned. CH-47B hit while landing at Landing Zone Judy 24 km South-Southwest of Hiep Duc, Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam. Additional Details - His name appears on the Vietnam Wall Panel 107W, Line 009. Additional Details - On August 26, 1970 when his plane was hit by enemy fire and crashed into trees and burned an internal load of 105mm ammo began exploding. It resulted in the deaths of four crewmen and over 2 dozen passengers. Only the pilot survived. ★ Purple Heart

** After the military Tommy Baker became a Kentucky State Police Officier. He was a retired lieutenant and detective after 28 years.
He has a bridge at Wooton named after him.

**Rudolph Bailey, 194 Glider Infantry Regiment, 17 ABN DIV, WW ll. PFC Bailey had a Purple Heart, WW ll Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Good Conduct Medal. Private Bailey’s group was dropped from their glider to cover a company that was under fire. Unfortunately, they were dropped approximately 20 miles away from the intended drop and had to hike in. They were ambushed on the way in and some of them died. PVT Bailey saved many lives including his SGT.

**John C. Huff, (1839 - 1919) was a Civil War Veteran, farmer, and father of nine children. His wife was Pauline Reynolds Huff, originally from Cow Creek in Owsley County. John was known throughout the area as a physician. Though he had no real medical training, he taught himself the fundamentals of caring for people the best he could. He was present for many births throughout the area surrounding Confluence, KY in the Wilder Branch, Trace Branch area.
**John C. Huff, (Jr.), (1922 - 1944), This is the son of Sherman and Lucy J Campbell Huff. While he is given the "Jr." this is really to distinguish him from his grandfather John C Huff for whom he was named and fought in the Civil Wat and who is buried nearby.
John was killed in action near Bastogne, Belgium. The Battle was part of the larger Battle of the Bulge. Outnumbered and surrounded for five days, a U.S. Army combined arms force of airborne infantry, armor, engineers, tank destroyers, and artillery conducted a successful defense of the Belgian crossroads town of Bastogne in late December 1944. Many men died, including John C. Huff, Jr.
January 17, 1945, John received a posthumous Bronze Star from President Roosevelt for bravery in a prior battle in France on December 8, 1944. He volunteered for a dangerous mission to locate a German position on the front line. He saved himself and the platoon leader from capture.

**Bruce Hoskins, age 25, a native of Leslie County, Kentucky, was shot and killed Sunday afternoon, January 25, 1942 at the "Idle Hour", a roadhouse near Hyden in Leslie County, KY, by Bascom Morgan, age 18, of Short Creek, in Leslie County, son of the late Chester Morgan.
Bruce was the son of Will Hoskins, who was killed in France during World War I, when Bruce was only 14 months old, and whose body was never found. Bruce was reared by his mother, Mrs. Bertha Pennington Hoskins and stepfather Cal Hoskins on Bad Creek of Middle Fork at Asher, KY. Since his marriage he had been living in California for five years, but had returned to Leslie County about two weeks before on a visit before enlisting in the Navy.
UPDATE: William Hoskins, Private, Company D, 165th Infantry 42nd Division, World War I, Bruce's father who died on 19 Aug 1918 (aged 22) Seringes-et-Nesles, Departement de l'Aisne, Picardie, France remains were eventually recovered and buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Section EUR, Site 2346. He is pictured below.
